Apart from the normal run-of-the-mill commemorative mugs and the like commissioned for fund-raising events, Eastgate has also produced some obscure plaques and statues. All pottery firms are eager to produce wares to celebrate events such as Royal Weddings, this is purely a commercial process, but Popes and obscure saints must require some faith.
I have to confess that I had never heard of St. Margaret Clitherow or the story until I was lucky enough to purchase the statuette and the seller kindly gave me the gory details. These sort of items are probably slipping past Eastgate collectors unnoticed due to a total lack of any documentation.
These types of item would only have been made in small quantities for a select market as they appear on the market less frequently than the ghost of the Saint.
